About

Mission Statement

KCSO Family and Friends provides sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type events for children and adults with disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. We also provide various opportunities for our members to grow socially.

KCSO is an independent, totally volunteer not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization which is self-funded through community donations.   We believe that all athletes should have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics regardless of their financial status and our fundraising efforts enable us to support this belief.    We support one hundred athletes throughout Kendall County and the surrounding areas ranging in age from eight and seventy years old.  We have been serving athletes with special needs in this community since 1970.  KCSO serves Special Olympics Region C covering far west suburban Illinois.

KCSO athletes compete in seven sports annually:  Snowshoeing, Swimming, Track and Field, Golf, Bocci, Rhythm Gymnastics and Bowling. All sports follow the same basic pattern: registration, training and practices, area competition, and then regional and/or state competition. We have been serving athletes with special needs since 1970.
